On a work trip to China, I found myself wandering through a bustling local market after a long day of meetings. The smells, sounds, and sights were overwhelming — a sensory overload I hadn’t expected. Among the herbal stalls and exotic wares, I noticed something that stopped me in my tracks: a small glass jar filled with what looked like hard, overlapping scales. I asked the lady what they were. “Pangolin scales,” she replied casually. “Used in traditional medicine.”
I had heard of pangolins, but never imagined I’d see their parts sold so openly. That night, I couldn’t shake the image. I researched and learned that pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world — hunted into near extinction for their scales and meat. Each scale sold represents a terrified animal torn from the wild, its body reduced to ‘remedy’.
It haunted me. I thought of my own children and how they might grow up in a world where pangolins no longer exist. I had to do something — something creative, something loud.
That’s when the idea for the Pangolin Collection was born. I designed a clothing line inspired by the pangolin’s distinctive overlapping armor — bold, protective, beautiful. Each piece tells a story, raising awareness of the cruel reality behind the trade, while celebrating the incredible creature we stand to lose.
Fashion can be more than style — it can be a statement. Through each purchase, we spread awareness and knowledge to our children. I created the collection not just as a designer, but as a witness — someone who saw the truth, and decided not to look away.
The pangolin may be silent, but through this collection, its voice is heard.
